What’s New at Cerulean Jet
Cerulean purchases carbon offsets for all flights from Green Mountain Energy Company
AUSTIN, Texas—April 10, 2007
Cerulean Jet, the premier provider of private air charter brokerage services, has become the first private jet broker to neutralize the carbon emissions for all of its chartered flights. The company announced today that it is purchasing carbon offsets from Green Mountain Energy Company's eMission Solutions division to offset its carbon footprint from business operations. Green Mountain is the nation's leading provider of cleaner energy and carbon offset solutions.
Cerulean will purchase carbon offsets from Green Mountain for 100 percent of its entire brokered fleet's flights for one year. This means that the company will offset the estimated amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions that Cerulean Jet's premier brokered fleet creates for every mile of travel during one year of operation. Carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming. With this offset, Cerulean Jet will lead the way for other private jet operators in combating global climate change. Investments in carbon offsets or carbon free technologies such as renewable energy, energy efficiency and forest sequestration are a way to balance out an organization's or individual's carbon emissions.
"The air travel industry contributes to carbon dioxide emissions, which is why Cerulean Jet is offsetting 100 percent of our jet travel with carbon offsets," said Ken Starnes, CEO of Cerulean Jet. "Offsetting our carbon footprint is good for business and good for the environment, ultimately increasing our ability to help in the global warming flight."
"We applaud Cerulean for being the first private jet broker to not only offset its emissions, but to offset its entire brokered fleet's emissions," said Gillan Taddune, chief environmental officer of Green Mountain Energy Company. "This action demonstrates that Cerulean is a forward thinking company and sets a specific example for the next generation of sustainable organizations. We believe that Cerulean is at the forefront of what will soon be an emerging trend in the air travel business."
Green Mountain Energy Company estimates that in 2007, Cerulean will be able to offset the impact of an estimated 4 million miles of private jet flights.
"Green Mountain is making all of this possible. We couldn't have found a better partner for Cerulean from both a business and brand perspective," added Starnes. "There are clear synergies between the two brands; we define Cerulean as a deep blue color similar to that of a clear October sky; Green Mountain believes Cleaner electricity today. Bluer skies tomorrow."
The offsets come from an energy efficiency project implemented by the City of Portland, Ore. Cerulean will promote its carbon offset purchases through magazine ads, email campaigns and its Web site, as well as in brochures it displays in its chartered jets. Additionally, the company will promote this initiative through www.thegreenjet.com, Cerulean's new green Web site for pilots. This green portal will provide private jet owners and operators with an easy way to offset their jet's carbon footprint and receive certification from Green Mountain Energy, all in one click of the mouse.
